Breathing Exercises

Sometimes you need to take a breath. Here are a few breathing exercises you can do in just a few minutes or your little ones can join you.

BELLY BREATHING

  1. Find a comfortable place to sit or lay flat
  2. Place one hand on your belly just below your ribs and the other over your chest
  3. Take a deep breath through your nose and allow your belly to push out your hand. Your chest should not move
  4. Breath out through your mouth and feel the hand on your belly go down
  5. Continue taking 3-10 more deep breaths. Take your time with each one.
  6. Notice how you feel after the exercise. Does your body feel more relaxed?

STRETCHING & BREATHING

This breathing exercise is great for your child to try along with you!

1. Find a space with room to stretch your arms

2. Stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart

3. Breath in through your nose, raising your arms above your head as you do, and touch your palms together

4. Turn the palms of your hands outwards.

5. Breath out through your mouth as you lower your arms back down to your sides

6. Repeat three to five times.

7. Notice how you feel after the exercise, do you feel present in the moment?

4-7-8 BREATHING

  1. Find a place where you can sit comfortably
  2. Breath in through your nose, counting to four in your head
  3. Hold the breath, counting to seven in your head
  4. Breath out through your mouth, mentally counting to eight
  5. Repeat the cycle three more times
  6. Notice how you feel after the exercise. Does your breathing feel more at ease?
