Geometric Set
Ways to use it
- Start by allowing your child explore the Geometric Set. Your child might pick up and tap the shapes or even throw them, these are all ways to explore and are a part of play.
- Encourage your child to fit one of the shapes into the base. You can tap the base and say “put it here” to help guide them
- allow your child to do this themselves as they are learning how to be independent at this stage
- Some children may feel overwhelmed with too many shapes at once, if so, offer your child one shape at a time.
- Give your child lots of praise and encouragement at every step from using their ‘palmar grasp’, to picking up each shape, to mastering the puzzle. These are all new discoveries for your child.
- Your child can also combine the puzzle with the individual Circle, Triangle, and Square Puzzles if your child is ready for a challenging step. Combining these toys can help teach nesting skills.
Research
1 year to 3 years
The Geometric Set is a great introduction to teaching shape recognition. Your child is growing fast and might even be picking up smaller objects like spoons or keys. The Geometric Set helps to further develop their "palmar grasp". It can also help to promote problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
